John the Baptist, Musée deu Louvre.

Da Vinci represented in the painting of John the Baptist, exhibited in the Musée du Louvre, the symbolic image of the biblical man, generating with mannerism (unnatural and contorted positions) the images of the irrational thought of the human intelligence within the mind, just as it is visualized by placing a mirror in the middle of John’s body.

The tree of the science of god and evil mentioned in the genesis, that suddenly appears behind John when one places the mirror is also related to the Buddha philosophy, and just like in the Bible, according to Philo, symbolicly represent the mind where one can see the level of instruction of the intelligence of each human being. The fruits represent the virtues of the intelligence that govern correctly its sensibility, just as one can see in the Buddha’s tree, John the Baptist’s tree represents John’s intelligence that is stripped of the virtues of the rational thought and struggles to fight the vices of his own body.

The woman that is formed when one places the mirror on the middle of John’s body, is not a human female, as explained by Philo of Alexandria, but the symbolic name given in the Bible to the corporal sensibility (the biblical woman) that transmits the five senses to the intelligence which was symbolically called “man”.

Da Vinci reveals in this painting that Adam and Eve are the intelligence and the sensibility that form the soul of John the Baptist prior to receiving the baptism of instruction that will dress them with the cloak of the rational thought, in the New Testament converted in Jesus and his beloved disciple.

John the Baptist´s finger (universal symbol of the ideas and thoughts) signals the location where one must place the mirror (symbol of the reason) that allows him to gain consciousness of his acts.

Da vinci´s painting describes the allegory of the biblical genesis and of Ephiasians 5:23 that allows one to comprehend the reason why the man represents the human intelligence that has to be the head of its woman (the corporal sensibility), and not the woman head of the man to avoid succumbing to the vices and pasions of its own body.
